Shibori:Expanding
the Tradition
This exhibit will show examples of contemporary
Japanese shibori fabrics, some of its uses in fashion, and its relation
to its traditional origins. Much of the shibori examples to be shown
are being made especially for this exhibit by one of Yoshiko's
colleagues, Hiroshi Murase of Japan. There will be examples of new,
specially designed self-texturing fabrics from Japan which allow for a
unique exploration of the texturing aspects shibori. These new fabrics
are a part of a project that Yoshiko has been coordinating with the
Gunma Prefecture Society for Sericulture Industry Promotion (GPSSIP)
and Koshimitsu textile mill.
