I have worked with textile dyeing and clothing since 1969. In 1981, I took a workshop in Japanese dyeing techniques from artist, researcher, and Smithsonian fellow Yoshiko Wada. I was greatly influenced by her work and enthusiasm, and have been working with shibori techniques since then, using and exploring many different kinds of silk.


Since 1995, I have been working with award-winning quilter Carol Freeman, who does the piecework and clothing construction for some of my garments. I have always liked the process of wrapping, binding, shaping, and dyeing cloth. The resulting intricate, naturalistic patterns and colors are my way to walk in beauty and encourage others to do so.
