PURPOSE: On this occasion, in Japan, to examine the latest developments in the textile field wherein the traditional Japanese technique of shibori has emerged as a significant inspiration to textile artists worldwide and designers at large
THEME: shibori, as expressed in ways not limited by the conventional definition of “resist dyeing process”; expanded interpretations of “shibori” to incorporate modern technology and to develop new applications
GUIDELINES: open to Japanese and non-Japanese artists (50/50 representation); artworks only (no wearables), 2D, 3D, and installation; works must either be created using shibori process or be inspired by concept of shibori; aesthetically and conceptually innovative and creative; not easily breakable nor difficult to install nor too precious.
DIMENSIONS: (2D) 2m x 3m max., 20kg max; (3D) girth+height = 4m max, 30kg max

PURPOSE: On this occasion, in Japan, to recognize and celebrate the changing approaches to shibori expressed by today' s design students and emerging designers; to celebrate students whose works challenge Japan' s historically and traditionally rich field of textiles through innovative shibori creations. Fifty universities, colleges, arts schools in Japan are expected to participate. Five entries max. per school allowed.
THEME: Works that challenge the concept of traditional shibori in process or approach or application
GUIDELINES: open to Japanese and non-Japanese artists; must currently be a student (undergraduate or graduate okay) or recent graduates may submit work from during their student years; work must use shibori process or be inspired by shibori concepts; collaborative works acceptable.
DIMENSIONS: 2-D or 3-D fine; max size: 2mx3m
